Joe Jonas Releases Name Of First Single

At Wango Tango today Joe Jonas revealed that his first single, dropping at the beginning of June, would be titled ‘See No More’.

His full album is rumoured to be released in early September . He’s rumoured to be doing a solo tour this summer as well, though there have been no official confirmations of this .

I have mixed feelings about his solo album and single. I love Joe with all of my heart, I really do, but I have a feeling he’s trying too hard to shake his Disney image with all of it. Like, a collaboration with Chris Brown? Really, Joe? The Joe I love raps about the Muffin Man and Jackets for laughs, not on actual songs to try and be serious. His whole image re-shake and new sound and everything make me sad in a way. I know he missed out on a lot of his childhood, and it must have been hard trying to be this perfect Disney golden boy all the time, but if he’s not careful, he could begin to lose some of the respect he and his brothers have worked so hard to gain.

All of that said, I will forever love he and his brothers, whether they’re together or solo, whether they’re creating club music, or songs for Disney soundtracks. They will always have a large place in my heart. And I’m still waiting for that tour confirmation, boys.

No word on when the single is being released here, but it should be soon after the USA.

Frangipani Princess Turns Four

Sometimes it feels like my blog is still a baby, but then I look at the calendar and suddenly realise that Frangipani Princess is actually four years old. Today, in fact, is it’s birthday. Four years since I first decided to sit down at my computer and write a blog. My first attempt was rather horrible, if I may say so myself, but as the years have passed and I’ve grown older and wiser, I feel the quality has kind of improved. Which is always a good thing.

A year ago, I wrote about how happy I was to have received 41,000 hits in my first three years. An achievement, I said. In the year since I wrote that I have received an additional 112,000 unique hits. You have no idea how proud I am of that. Starting this blog at thirteen, I had no plans for the future. I thought, hell, I want to be a journalist, why not start a blog? So I did. And it went from there. I gained readers and then blinked and suddenly I was being asked to be in Dolly, and then blinked again and suddenly I had found myself on the about page of Girl With A Satchel.

I’d love to say I had a lot planned for this year, but that would be lying. I’m taking it day by day. You can still expect crazy fangirling and magazine goss (Work Experience at Dolly in two weeks, and then at Girlfriend and Dolly in July!), plus whatever randomness I feel like writing about. I’m also off to Vietnam in October and France in December so you can look forward to some lovely travelling tales. I’m also still writing for gwas, so you can see me pop up there from time to time.

The four years since I started Frangipani Princess have passed in the blink of an eye. It’s weird to think that in the same amount of time I’ll be twenty one and studying third year uni (and hopefully interning!).

Thank you so much for reading guys. FP would be nothing without you. Here’s to four more years.
I love you all.

Legal In The Wizarding World

Happy birthday to me. Happy birthday to me. Happy birthday dear me-eeeeee. Happy birthday to me.

And so another year has passed and I’m once again blowing out candles (on my mum’s brilliant chocolate cake). Officially legal in the wizarding world (magic outside of school and apparation here I come!), today I turn sweet seventeen (and still never been kissed).
I celebrated with my family last night, my school friends tonight (A Heartbeat Away and pizza) and then my friends from my old town tomorrow. It’s going to be brilliant.

I don’t particularly feel seventeen, nor do I really look it. In fact, my peer-reading buddy basically told me she thought I was lying about my age yesterday. It’s not my fault interests suit twelve year olds and I’m kind of small with not much make up on. Sigh.
Seventeen is starting to get so old. I’m not really ready to be old. My childhood is slipping away, and unlike most of my peers, I find it more scary than something to be overly excited about. In just one year I’ll be legal in the real world, able to drink, gamble and vote. That’s a pretty scary thought; me being able to have a say in who runs our country.

Gosh, time flies these days.

Here’s to a great year. To quote Looking For Alibrandi, “I have reached the seventeen that Janis Ian sang about where one learns the truth”, so let’s see where it takes me.

Glossy Talk: Talking Teen Magazines

Thanks to all your wonderful help in completing my Magazine Survey, my post for Girl With A Satchel is now up and ready for you all to read.

Your responses were all very interesting and allowed me to write an awesome post for Erica. You should all read it, and tell Erica what you think of the new Teen Mag Circulation Results.
Thanks again for your help, and to Erica for asking me to write it for her!

My Next Adventure

“People are people and sometimes it doesn’t work out.” – ‘Breathe’ Taylor Swift

Exchanges are tricky things. Families pick students based on one sheet of paper with only the most basic information on it and students have no say at all in the matter. A lot of the time this works out perfectly fine, but occasionally there are instances where it just doesn’t work and it’s best for both parties if a new match is found. Sadly, this is what has happened to me this week.
My current host family and I are not parting on terribly bad terms; it was just decided that my extremely girly and pop-culture loving personality didn’t mesh overly well with a family who only had sons whose passions were physics and classical music. Neither of us harbour any resentment and I have enjoyed the two months I spent in their house.

I thought I was going to have to change towns, but at the last minute a family was found in my current one which I am thankful for as it means I won’t have to start all over again in a new school etc. etc. My new family has a 17 year old son and a 15 year old daughter, which I’m glad for. Hopefully having a host sister will make things easier, as I feel the absence of one was the main factor which contributed to the downfall of my current situation.

To say I’m nervous is a complete understatement, but I’m sure it will all work out. Unfortunately my macbook is rather dead (something about a motherboard needing replacing, so back to Australia it goes) and I’m not sure what the computer situation at my new house will be like so I don’t know how my posting over the next three months will go. I’ll let you know as soon as I know myself.

I now have the ever so enjoyable task of packing ahead of me. I’m pretty sure my possessions have tripled in the two and a half months I’ve been here so fitting it all into my suitcase which was already overfull upon my arrival is going to be a fun task. My books could fill a suitcase all on their own, not going to lie. If only my beloved new ereader had come into my possession, I dunno, two months earlier than it did 😛

Fingers crossed and I’ll keep you posted!

Fangirl Friday – Taylor Swift Edition

I meant to post this the other day as a ‘Taylor Tuesday’ but got totally sidetracked. I was trying to think what I could fangirl over this week, when an ad came on tv reminding me today is Friday the Thirteenth. Taylor’s favourite number is thirteen. It was perfect.

So a lot of exciting things have been happening in the Taylor Swiftdom lately.

Firstly, she released her new single, Mine. Oh. My. Gosh. It was love at first listen (and the hundreds of listens after). It’s a typical Taylor cliche song – a cutesy love story that every teen listener dreams could happen to them – but it’s perfect.

Then, one of the people I follow on twitter linked to this video:

It’s a freaking studio version of Permanent Marker, only one of my favourite unreleased Taylor Songs (the title of favourite goes to I’d Lie). I am seriously hoping it’s on the album, although, I must say I prefer the live version I have. I know that’s crazy, but she sings it with so much more passion and makes it a lot more intense(ly hilarious) live.

Of course, one of the most exciting announcements regarding her new album (Speak Now, available in October) is that Sparks Fly will finally have a place. Again, it’s one of my favourite unreleased Taylor songs, and it’s just so much darn fun to sing a long to.

Just for fun, my favourite Taylor song (and close contender for favourite song ever) and favourite video clip, You Belong With Me:

You can’t not sing along once this starts playing. And Lucas Till is just so damn dreamy.

It wouldn’t be a Tsweezy fangirl sesh if I didn’t include Thug Story:

Finally, an oldie but a goodie, Love Story:

Damn it, I want to live in a castle and wear a pretty dress and have a prince who will come for me no matter what. Oh, and the running dramatically down the stairs thing? So going to do that one day.

Oh, and what the hell, I’ll post one more. This is one of my favourite ever covers of Love Story:

It’s performed by Forever The Sickest Kids (LOVE them) and it’s just a rad take which I first heard at a time when the original was so overplayed, it was driving me batty.

I could go on posting about Taylor for hours, which is quite hilarious seeing as until about a year ago I hated her with a religious conviction and would refer to her as ‘the evil squinty eyed bitch’. I even wrote a play for english where she was an evil cow who got pregnant to her best friends boyfriend and then caused said best friend to overdose on drugs and die. Woo. I was really that cool.

Tswizzle is definitely one of the celebrities I’d do anything to meet…

ps. I don’t know what’s up with the size of the videos, and I’m too unco to work out how to fix it :S

This Is Only One Of The Coolest Things Ever

So this is pretty much my favourite discovery of the holidays. Late last week I received a lovely email from a reader and in it she said that she had discovered my blog via Disney Adventures magazine. I was slightly confused, as I was not aware that people at Disney Adventures magazine even knew my blog existed, so I emailed back double checking just what she meant and she sent back this:

I cropped it down because she sent the double page spread which involved the movie Harriet The Spy, and as Jennifer Stone annoys me, I didn’t want her face clogging up my blog.
As you can see, they list little old Frangipani Princess as number three in their Top Blogs We Love, in amongst such big names as The Style Rookie, Just Jared Junior and Fail Blog. To say I’m chuffed is a major understatement.
If my thirteen year old self could look into the future and see this, she’d pretty much die. When I started this blog three years ago, my biggest dream was to somehow get someone who even shared a house with someone who worked in a magazine to read my blog, and now here I am, having conversations with the freaking editor of Dolly over my reviews of the magazine on my favourite blog ever.   To know that people actually read, care and most importantly enjoy what I write here makes me insane amounts of happy. I was having a crap night, but as soon as that email came through I got the biggest smile on my face and it’s showing no sign of leaving. While those who read Disney Adventures may not exactly be my target audience (who am I kidding, they’re more suited to what I write about then people my own age who actually read this), the fact that the people who write Disney Adventures have actually taken time from their busy days to read my little corner of cyberspace and give it space in their magazine just makes my life. Magazines are my passion, and I’m luck enough to have been given some pretty awesome opportunities (and to have met some really lovely people along the way who have assisted with these opportunities, and give the best advice. You all know who you are; I’m forever grateful) and for someone whose first few months of posting had excessive usage of the word ‘lol’, well, it’s more than a dream come true.
To you, my amazing readers, I am beyond thankful. As I have said before, if I had no readers, epic things like this wouldn’t happen. So thankyou. Merci. Thankyou.

Have I Mentioned How Much I Hate Politics?

So we have a female prime-minister.
Hm.
I’m not going to share what I think about this because:
1) I value Quack’s friendship too much
and
2) I honestly don’t care enough
I will tell you this though:
I truly believe that as a nation at the moment we are viewing this scene through rose-coloured glasses. Yes, we finally have a female prime-minister, but we’re kind of ignoring her less-than-epic rise to power. Once the novelty of a female leader wears off, and the reality of having Julia Gillard as a leader sinks in, I think many people will be changing their celebratory tunes from today. Just a vague bit of my opinion.
Boy oh boy, it’s going to be a fun five months 😐
