Holiday Update: LA and Vegas

The last ten days have been totally hectic, leaving Washington to meet up with my family in Los Angeles. My brother and I spent a super fun day at Universal Studios (even though I pretty much died in the House of Horrors), and we checked out the walk of fame, Chinese theatre, etc, etc. I would have liked maybe an extra day there, but for just Hollywood it was fun.

After LA we headed to Anaheim for three days. I spent all three at Disneyland, which left me totally exhausted but extremely happy. My brother and I went on almost every ride in the two parks, and I managed to drag my dad onto all but one rollercoaster. Surprisingly, the scariest ride was the Mickey Mouse Ferris Wheel. Here’s a helpful tip I wish someone had given me: if you think the swinging gondolas are going to be fun, you’re wrong.

Although I would have happily spent my entire holiday at Disneyland (highlight = the families with matching shirts to celebrate their trips), it was soon time to head to Las Vegas. This was the part of the trip I was least looking forward to, as I am so not twenty-one.

We stayed at the Bellagio which is centre strip and totally amazing. We shopped way too much (is there such a thing?), enjoyed the brilliant Christmas decorations, caught a Cirque Du Soleil show, and ate until I thought I was going to burst at buffets (if you’re heading to Vegas, make sure you go to the buffet at Caesar’s Palace. It’s by far the best). We also went to the Grand Canyon which was a super long day but completely worth it. The SkyWalk was one of the coolest things I’ve done in a long time.

I thought the highlight of my trip would be a trip to the Gold And Silver Pawn Shop (where Pawn Stars is set), but due to unfortunate timing on our behalf, the day we set aside to visit, they were shut for filming. My disappointment didn’t last long, however, as my dad, brother, aunty and I hit up a gun range. It was kind of scary, but also really awesome and exhilarating. Definitely not something I want to make a habit out of, but when in Rome…

Tomorrow morning I have to wake up at some disgusting hour (3.30am) to catch a plane back to LA and then on to Washington DC. I’m only going to be spending one full day in Washington, as the second day we’re there I’m heading to New York to see the Joe Moses One Man Showses (Holiday Edition). But that’s a story for another post.
