Frangi Faith: Re-entering Religion

If you’ve been reading Frangipani Princess for a few years, you would know that I occasionally experiment with posts themed “Frangi Faith”. I am a Christian, although my faith throughout my teen years has been rocky, to say the least. In recent months, however, after a mental health battle (thanks, year twelve), and some inspiration from the lovely Erica, I’ve felt called to re-enter religious life. After two and a bit years of living in my new town, I also finally sought out a new church. After attending a traditional Anglican church for seven years in my old town, I felt the need to seek out something more modern, and so the new church I have found is very youth-centric, upbeat, and fun. It makes worshipping God so exciting, and I feel filled so filled with the Spirit every time I attend.

This morning we had a guest pastor (is it really wrong if I say he was super attractive? I’m obviously still working on the whole not being superficial part of my faith) preaching, and the message of the sermon was that God calls us to use whatever methods and gifts He has given us to spread the message of His love. The message really spoke to me, because like Erica, I have here a wonderful platform to spread messages of God’s love and inspiration on my life, and I have been neglecting it.

I know not everyone is a Christian. I know some of you reading this are probably scrunching your noses up in disgust and lowering your opinion of me, but believe me, God is so good. Like, so good I cannot even begin to explain how good He is. Most of the opinions you may have of Him are probably based on your experiences with other Christians, but the most important thing to remember is that Christ is so much better than the Christians you will encounter. As Ghandi once said, “I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.”

I’ll probably only post Frangi Faith’s on a Sunday, and I hope that even if you consider yourself an atheist, you’ll think about reading. God is working wonders in my life, and I just pray that you can open your heart and experience His majesty as well.

To me, God is love. He loves us, and all He wants in return is for us to not only love Him, but to love everyone else we encounter. In recent years I’ve become a very hateful person, disliking people for no apparent reason, and constantly being negative. However, God is working in my heart to show me how much better Love is, and how amazing you feel loving everyone. Because you don’t know everyone’s story, you don’t know what they’re going through or why they act the way they do, and maybe all they need is for you to smile instead of glare at them. Last week in our sermon we learnt that loving people unconditionally doesn’t mean you have to be everyone’s best friend. It’s like in my favourite Relient K song, “Which To Bury Us Or The Hatchet” when it says “and know I’ll always love you, but right now I just don’t like you”. Love and Like are two different things, and God calls us to love each other unconditionally, because that’s what everyone deserves.

One of my favourite bands, Stellar Kart, sums up what I want to finish with in their song Jesus Loves You:
I know I don’t have all the answers, and I’ve wasted many chances to prove to you a faith that lives inside. I’m praying there will be a breakthrough, cos I can’t be the one to save you, God knows how many times I’ve tried. I can’t make it clearer put it any other way, if you can’t see the simple truth I do, then there’s nothing in this world that’s left to say but Jesus loves you.

If you want to learn more about God’s love in a non-threatening/scary way, I’d suggest listening to some CCM (Contemporary Christian Music) such as Stellar Kart, Anthem Lights, or Royal Tailor (or discover some of your own!). All spread the message of God’s love in a totally amazing way ❤

  1. It's really cool you're upfront and honest about your faith. I think your readers will appreciate it. Honesty is a pretty great blogging quality to have.

  2. Another great Christian singer is Britt Nicole. She's absolutely amazing. I'd also like to say that you are so inspiring and honest about your faith and thankyou because you've helped me to see not to be ashamed of your faith.
