A Little Less Wise

I got my wisdom teeth out yesterday; all four in one lovely operation. I didn’t think it would be that bad, I mean, I was in and out of the day surgery clinic in four hours, and after an ankle reconstruction, surely anything else would be a walk in the park?
Apparently teeth extraction is not a walk in the park, especially when combined with general anaesthetic.
At first, you get the twelve or so hours of mouth-numbness which makes talking and drinking near impossibilities, and don’t even get me started on trying to swallow tablets and the amount I managed to dribble. By the time the numbness wears off, you’re ready to welcome feeling with open arms…until you realise that feeling equals pain.
The other terrible bit about wisdom tooth extraction is that you can’t eat solid food. I hadn’t realised how much of an issue this would be until I began craving a hamburger and all I could eat was…yogurt. Soft food is fun for about two minutes and then all you want is a piece of toast, or a packet of chips. It’s only been twenty-four hours since I got home, but I have never missed actual food so much in my life. Apparently I have to wait at least another two or three days before I can even attempt solids, and that is a very depressing thought.
I currently look like a chipmunk, but I do get to spend the next couple of days in bed with no responsibilities. Hello watching Friday Night Lights all weekend.
I’m going to get maccas sundaes for dinner (I’m healthy) and send mum to the baby food aisle to hopefully get something close to edible for the rest of the time.
Having wisdom teeth hurt, but having them out hurt so much more. Hopefully the pain doesn’t last much longer, and I can eat my much-craved for solids again soon. I don’t think anything will taste as amazing as the first time I get to eat something not mushy.
