Last month, we were told that J.K Rowling had a big announcement. We all waited with bated breath, and finally it was revealed – Pottermore, a new interactive encyclopaedia-esque website would be coming our way. Every member of the fandom was excited, but then the downside was revealed. Registration would not open until July 31st (Harry and J.K’s birthday), and the website wouldn’t open for real until October.

Finally, July 31st dawned. I was staying with my Marauder’s at Toong’s house and as soon as we woke, we jumped online to find out what was happening. All we could find is that there would be some ‘Magical Quills’ to find over the next week. To get early registration, you had to be in the first lot of fans to solve the clue on one of the days and then find the Quill. The Hufflepuff’s amongst us were in luck. We were not told when the first clue would be revealed, but tumblr went crazy with anticipation. Finally, at 6pm Australian time, the clue was revealed. I, of course, was at the supermarket, but because I have the greatest best friend ever, she told me the answer and I got through the registration. Unfortunately, the automatically generated usernames given to me were rather terrible, but I decided upon HallowRune144. My friend Adro got to be QuaffleStar. I have never been so jealous.

Unfortunately, the wait was not yet over. You had to then get a verification email to confirm your registration. Mine took over an hour to arrive. I was holding my breath, equal parts paranoid that I’d entered the wrong email, or that they’d decided not to accept me after all. But finally it came, and I clicked the link to find this page:

A slight let down, as we were not quite in yet. That said, the October 2011 is not for us early registrants. We will receive our second email anytime between tomorrow and the 30th of September. Once we get that email, we will be in. I really hope I get mine sooner rather than later, but of course, knowing my luck, I’ll be one of the last to get in.

Of course, getting in brings with it a whole new set of problems. Namely, the Official Pottermore Sorting. As anyone who knows me would be aware, I consider myself a Slytherclaw, AKA a Slytherin/Ravenclaw hybrid. I guess I’m more Slytherin, because I’m witty and sly, but still quite intelligent. The problem is, this quiz was written by J.K Rowling. You can only take it once. It’s the most intense sorting quiz ever, and each person gets an individual quiz. What happens if it sorts me into Hufflepuff? Or even worse, what if it sorts me into Gryffindor?! I don’t know if I’ll be able to cope. My whole identity will be pulled from underneath my feet. I’ll have to re-evaluate everything I’ve ever thought about myself. I don’t even want to think about it.

The anticipation of finally being let is is kind of killing me, but thankfully twitter and tumblr are full of like-minded fangirls. The conversations going around tonight are absolutely brilliant, and make me so happy to be a part of this Fandom.

Fingers crossed we all get our emails soon guys!

  1. From what I can work out – and it is confusing – the first million to verify their emails get in early. And I doubt they let a million in on the first clue, so as long as you verify quickly, you should be right. It's like first in, first served ;)Fingers crossed!fp xo

  2. I'm also registered (SpiritSpell168). Yesterday, my screen looked exactly like the one in your screenshot, but today it said something different. Mine now says: "Congratulations! You’ve successfully validated your early access Pottermore account. You will be one of the lucky few to shape the experience before the site opens to all in October. You may have to wait a few weeks for your Welcome email to arrive as we can’t let everyone into the Beta site at the same time.We look forward to seeing you."I believe that means I'm one of the lucky people. I hope, anyway. It does say "will".
