I had never realised how much of a bogan accent I had until I went to my first camp class the other day. Everyone else in my group has amazing European accents, and we were going around the room doing some basic French speaking activities and everyone sounded so cool. Then they got to me. I was so embarrassed – I had never noticed my accent before, and now it’s all I can here. I stick out like a sore thumb; it’s humiliating. Australian accents should not be allowed to speak European languages.
Camp is going well, except my mac is broken (if anyone knows what to do when the screen keeps shutting off, please tell me!) so my internet time is severely limited. I’m learning heaps and have made lots of friends (mainly from New Zealand – they don’t know what Bogan’s are! It’s crazy.).
I’m a fair bit homesick (and kinda sick of camp – I’m ready just to go to my family and get started, but no, ten more days here) but I guess that’s to be expected. It hasn’t really sunk in that this isn’t just like music camp and I’ll be going home on Saturday.
I guess I’ll get used to it.
I’ll post when I can 🙂
