I know I’ve been promising you a Hannah Montana The Movie review for like a week now, and don’t worry, it’s coming. What’s coming right now however is a review of The Boy In The Striped Pajamas because I saw it today and it was the most amazing movie I’ve seen in a very long time.
We’ve just finished learning about Hitler in history, so with my new knowledge fresh in my mind I set off to see this tragic tale. It follows the story of eight year old Bruno (rofl) whose father is a high ranked German soldier. When his father gets promoted, the family moves to a house in the country side, and through his window Bruno can see ‘a strange farm with kids in pajamas’. He is, of course, referring to a concentration camp. Bruno loves exploring, and even after his mother specifically tells him not to go out the back, he finds himself at the fence of the camp, face to face with a Jewish boy his age. The two strike up an unlikely friendship, both too innocent to realise what is happening all around them and what’s really being burnt in the fires. The story reaches a tragic climax in the last fifteen minutes, all of which I spent bawling like a baby. By the ending I could not see through my tears. Hitler was such an evil man, and what they did to those Jews was beyond terrible.
If you can put up with a sad, sad story go see it. It’s amazing and a fresh look at the lives of a German family in WW2. Actually, I think it’s finished at most cinemas now, our cinema is slowww at getting movies, so maybe wait for the dvd. I give it a 9/10, only because it truly upset me too much to get the extra mark. This wasn’t like in P.S I Love You crying, where you’re sad for her, this is shocking, raw, true sadness. It’s the saddest I have ever been in a movie, and I cry in lots of them. I am so making sure my friend Shenae never sees it hahahha. I’m almost crying just thinking about it now.
Have any of you guys seen it/read the book? Tell me what you think in the comments 🙂
