Judging a forum member by their gender…

I was on the JB Aus forums this afternoon and again noticed the number of male fans who post. I’ve always kind of assumed they were gay, but today I started thinking that they don’t necessarily have to be. I pondered for a while, before deciding to leave you, my amazing readers, with a question:
Why is it socially acceptable for straight girls to ‘love’ other female bands/singers, but not acceptable for straight guys to do the same thing with male bands/singers?
When you think about it, my friends and I are always saying ‘Ohmygarbo I love her!’ referring to Tswift (music only) or Demi Lovato, and other girls often say it in relation to The Veronicas, Fergie, Hilary Duff and Gwen Steffani, but if I guy said ‘Ohmygosh I love the Jonas Brothers’ we all think that he’s gay. This is one of life’s great mysteries, and I want to get to the bottom of it. Does it have something to do with the old stereotype of straight men not showing emotion and only liking ‘blokey’ things, or does it have something to do with the style of music? Are boys sexuality’s only questioned if the band in question is a band lots of girls like (like JB) instead of if they liked heavy metal or screamo?
I think we all should just assume a guy is straight based on his music choices unless he says he is ‘in love’ with them. I would love to hear your opinion on the matter though πŸ™‚

  1. The Jonas Brothers SUCK. They have fake voices, fake music… get into some good rock! Listen to PROPER bands. The "jobros" are gay, and if you honestly think that they're cool or awesome, you have no taste whatsoever. Sorry.

  2. LOL at anonymous people. Is it really that bad that we have different interests to him/her?I think it's fine for guys to like jb, my little brother for example. Stereotypes frustrate me 😐

  3. Meh, I think we're perfectly allowed to be die hard in love with fans of whatever we want to and that's still considered socially acceptable, but it's tradition that we don't flap our hands and jump about it.I think we might actually have it in reverse and by that I mean that it can be perfectly normal for that kind of expression to be present, in guys, for whatever reason… but recently (especially recently) that kind of enthusiasm has become a primary characteristic of REEEEEALLY gay guys. The world knows you them by these things. So when something perfectly normal manifests itself (like LOOOOVING a band) in a regular old guy of course we automatically think to the place we see that action most. Gay people…. god that was a long comment.Saw that little "Hey thanks so much for taking the time to visit blah blah blah" at the top of your comments box and say you'd asked about other blogs. If you're really interested, I'll go ahead and link you.www.wizardofaus.wordpress.comand I've absolutely got to send you in the direction of another blogger who's work (and I've got to say it) I LOoOoOoOoOoVe in a purely masculine but absolute heart meltingly buttery way. Do have a browse through her blog if you have a spare sec. It's amazing.www.barefootbex.wordpress.comthanks again for a great post frangi! I think I'll be going to bed soon too though. 4. same, I always thought the male JB forum members were gay but it doesn't mean they neccesarily ahve to be. I mean, JB's music is potentially very "male' music, there's a lot of rock to it and some amazing guitar and drum solos. One of my mum's piano students(an 8 yr old boy) likes JB and he's one of the cool kids in school, but I guess he hasn't got to the judgemental stage in his life, and obviously neither have his peers.
