Some people get their rush from sport, or from music, or in some extreme cases, drugs. I get mine from debating. There is absolutely nothing like the feeling of getting up there, taking a deep breath and completely tearing the other team apart. I love my position as third speaker, because well, it’s my job to get up there and convince everyone how wrong the other team is. We debated the first round of the state competition today, and the topic was ‘That there should be compulsory drug testing in Australian schools’, we were aff. It wasn’t the one we wanted, we wanted ‘Selective schools should be scrapped’ but we made the most of what we had, and won 😀 I was seriously the most nervous I have been ever in debating, and I don’t know why. I had ‘take a breath’ by JB stuck in my head and that kind of helped but as soon as it was my turn, I literally took a deep breath and rocked it.
Prep was so funny today, I didn’t have anything to write so I was dancing around burning excess energy while singing the lines ‘Time is passing by, I’m losing my mind, I need 1,2,3,4,5,6 minutes with you’ and ‘You take a deep breath and you walk through the doors’ at the top of my lungs. It was very entertaining.
The year ten team didn’t win *sad panda* but they did really well being neg on quite a difficult topic ‘That gambling should be banned’. We’re proud of them, and anyway, there’s always next week to win 😛

  1. The only thing I ever liked about debating was prep and maccas. I didn’t get that rush standing up there. I hvae no idea what song this is. Seriously, I don’t even know who it is.Xoxo.. Toongen..

  2. Ha! I once won a debate arguing the affirmative that a long-term nuclear waste site should be constructed in Wisconsin (my home state).Fun stuff – but sometimes I don’t know about the results.

  3. What kind of debate do you do? I've never heard of a format with 3rd speaker on a team… unless you were doing CrossX or Public forum. There are other names for those things so I'm not sure if I'm making any sense. In high school I did three years of lincoln douglas, which is one one one. Then I did LD, CrossX, and Public Forum all in the same last year. My head was so dense all the time…… ah… I miss doing it though. Writing cases, preparing arguments, finding brilliant backdoors in people's brains so that when we're talking they're suddenly off guard and you use that tiniest little imbalance to just mentally backhand them into submission. I was GOD of the cross examination round. Twice in that 2 minute window I actually got my opponents to just admit that their case was wrong and I was right, out loud.Whooo… memories. Excellent choice of sport Frangi, keep it up. ^_^_Calebwww.wizardofaus.wordpress.com
