Another day, another three favourite picture books. Today’s selection includes ‘The snow fairy and the spaceman’ , ‘Smelly Chantelly’ and ‘Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge’. Let’s get started:
First cab off the rank today is ‘Smelly Chantelly’. Again, I’m going in reverse order (3rd to 1st favourite).
Smelly Chantelly is one of my favourites because it is Scratch and Sniff. And I love everything Scratch and Sniff. Basically, you follow Smelly Chantelly (who is a witch, in case you didn’t realise from the cover) around as she buys ingredients for a spell. It’s a funny story, with awesome scents.
Next book is ‘Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge’.
I’m sure everyone knows and loves this Mem Fox classic. It follows the story of Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge who lives next door to a nursing home. He loves visiting all the elderly people there, and they all have a story to tell. His favourite though, has four names, just like him. But when she starts to lose her memory he has to bring her objects to help her remember. I used to love reading this book before I went to visit elderly relatives in a nursing home. Very awesome.
My final book today is ‘The snow fairy and the spaceman’
This book is really, really, really cute. It tells the story of a little girl who at her birthday party receives two of the same gift, the second one from a boy dressed as a spaceman (it’s fancy dress). She chucks a tantrum and makes the little boy go outside and cry. Her mum sends her out to apologise, and she and the boy end up becoming really close friends. It’s a gorgeous little story, and I had forgotten I even owned it until last year. Definately an all time top three-er.
Love and cool picture books,
